Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API — your images never leave your device.
Which formats are supported?
JPG/JPEG, PNG and WebP for both input and output. You can also convert between formats, e.g. PNG to JPEG or WebP, to save even more space.
Why doesn't the quality slider change my PNG much?
PNG is a lossless format, so the quality setting does not apply. To shrink a PNG substantially, convert it to JPEG or WebP, or reduce the width/height.
What happens to transparent areas when converting PNG to JPEG?
JPEG does not support transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white during conversion.
Is image metadata (EXIF) preserved?
No. The compressed image is re-encoded from pixels only, which strips location and camera metadata — better for privacy and smaller files. Photos are rotated correctly based on EXIF orientation before compression.
Is there a batch limit?
There is no fixed limit — you can add as many images as you like. Very large images depend on your device's memory.
