Which hash should I use?
Use SHA-256 for new applications. MD5 and SHA-1 are fast but cryptographically broken for security purposes; they are still fine as checksums.
Can hashes be reversed?
No. Hashing is one-way. Short inputs can be found in lookup tables, which is why you should never rely on a plain hash to protect passwords.
Is my text uploaded?
No. MD5 runs in local JavaScript and the SHA algorithms use the browser Web Crypto API.
