When do I need to escape?
Whenever text goes inside HTML or an attribute: escaping stops it from being parsed as markup.
Named or numeric entities?
Named entities such as & are readable, while numeric ones such as & work for any character.
Can decoding run a script?
No. Decoding only turns entities into text; nothing is executed or injected into the page.
